Borders Hockey Joins Forces

Fjordhus Borders

A little information regarding the new club and the rationale behind its development

After the end of last season Selkirk Hockey Club was no longer able to retain their position in the East League due to falling numbers and the lack of a coach.
The new recently appointed Hockey Development Officers, Janet and Billy did not want to see the Borders losing a team especially an established team in the East District League

Through a number of meetings with Melrose, Selkirk, Hawick and Heriot Watt it was agreed that the selection of Borders teams would join forces and merge as one club. This would allow players to play in either the National League (where Melrose held their position last year) or play in the East League Division 2 where Selkirk held their position last year.

The National League team is now known as Borders Fjordhus 1 and the East League team Borders Fjordhus 2, potentially a development team.
This should help both teams as players can play at the level that is most appropriate to them.  Janet Jack as the coach to many of these girls is “delighted that we can now give them the opportunity to play senior hockey without over facing them”.  Equally there were players playing in East League who now have the opportunity to step up and play National League hockey.

Although this is a great step forward Janet has stressed that “There is no pressure on any of the players that come to the Borders Fjordhus to play in either league as perhaps they just want to come along and experience the coaching”

Best of luck to the newly formed team in the new approaching season.
