Champions in Schools
Champions in schools is a role-model programme delivered by Winning Scotland Foundation that places Scotland’s high performance athletes in the classroom to deliver a series of inspirational workshops. These workshops encourage pupils to set and achieve personal goals, pursue a healthy and active lifestyle, appreciate the value of hard work and adopt a positive, winning attitude.
By bringing Scotland’s most successful and exemplary sporting heroes face to face with the nations children, Champions in schools guides and motivates our youngsters to become a generation of winners who fulfil their potential and who believe that what is important is not how good they are now but how good they want to become.
Through their own personal example, the champions demonstrate to pupils that striving to reach their ambitions and making positive lifestyle choices can produce spectacular rewards. They will instruct and support the pupils on how they can get in the right track to reaping such benefit sin their own lives.
Objectives of the programme
1) To fulfil Winning Scotland Foundation’s charitable objectives of advancing the physical education of young people, improving the nation’s health and increasing participation in sport and physical activity in Scotland.
2) To fulfil at least three of the four capacities of the Curriculum for Excellence: creating successful learners, developing confidence and encouraging young people to be effective contributors. The programme may also assist in fulfilling the fourth capacity, by helping to develop responsible citizens.
