East District Championships

 

East District Age Groups Championships
7th & 8th February in Glenrothes
 
Backing up again in the midst of a very busy competition schedule Swim Team Borders members were on the move once more in Glenrothes for the East District Age Group Championships on the 7th and 8th of February.
 
Representing Galashiels ASC, 14 year old Amy Fraser continued her recent form to place second overall in the Open 800m Freestyle, receiving a gold medal as the fastest 14/15 year old girl in a time of 9:13.34. Amy narrowly missed out on making the final of the 14-15 years 200m Individual Medley placing 7th overall in a time of 2:30.49
 
Euan Johnston, 15 years, representing Duns ASC claimed bronze in the 800m Freestyle with a 13 second PB (9:01.56). Euan also recorded a PB in the 1500m Freestyle placing 4th in the 14-15 years age group in a time of 17:18.17. Euan rounded off his busy programme with a 5 second PB in the final of the 14-15 years 100m Backstroke and a 6 second PB in the 14-15 years 200m Individual Medley.
 
Also representing Duns ASC, 15 year old Kirsty Paterson placed 5th in the 16 & Over 200m Individual Medley (2:24.66). Recording a solid PB Kirsty’s performance was the second quickest by a 16 year old.
 
The Wilcox family again figured strongly with 13 year old Jessica recording a massive 8 second PB to place fifth in the 12-13 years 200m Individual Medley final (2:34.48). Older brother Scott placed 6th in the final of the 14-15 years 200m Individual Medley.
 
Other Swim Team Borders members who competed strongly for Teviotdale ASC included Maria Beattie (fourth quickest 14 year old 14-15 years 200m IM and narrowly missing the final in the 14-15 years 100m Backstroke), Katie Waugh, 14 years (just outside PB 14-15 years 100m Backstroke) and Kristie Waugh, 12 years (16 second PB in 12-13 years 200m Individual Medley).
 
Swim Team Borders and Borders Performance Coach Alex Jordan said: “It’s been a busy period with many serious competitions of late. The members of Swim Team Borders have done extremely well in performing at such a high level week after week... and the big PB’s still keep flooding in”.
 
Other notable mentions from clubs involved in the Borders Performance Development Programme include:
Ryan Brown, 11 years of Kelso ASC, recorded a massive 19 second PB to claim a bronze medal in the 10-11 years 200m Individual Medley (2:58.24).
 
Chloe Mitchell, 12 years of Kelso ASC, recorded a healthy 5 second PB to place 6th in the final of the 12-13 years 100m Butterfly. Her time of 1min 16.69sec made her the quickest 12 year old.
 
Abigail Tait, 14 years, Ailie Herbert, 10 years and Fraser Samuel, 10 years all of Duns ASC; Zoe Wilson and Lauren Murray, both 14 of Teviotdale ASC; Maxine Rae, 13 of Kelso ASC and Louise Ramage, 13 of Galashiels ASC all competed strongly for their clubs recording many personal best times in the process.
 
Swim Team Borders and club swimmers from the Borders Performance Development Programme are now preparing themselves for the final weekend of the East District Age Group Championships on the 7th and 8th of March.
