Active Schools to launch the '2012 OLYMPIC PASSPORT'
The Borders Sport & Leisure Trusts Active Schools team have put together the Olympic Passport. The main aim of the passport is to encourage P4-7 aged pupils to go out and try new sports and stay active. The passport will run from when the children receive their passport in January to the Olympics Closing Ceremony on 12th August 2012. Pupils in this age-group will receive their passport along with details of local sports clubs that they can attend to start them off (more clubs will be added to the list). After their first session they will be required to have the club coach sign their passport as evidence of their attendance. The added incentive of joining a new club is that children will receive points for attending these Olympic sports. The sports are graded based on their accessibility across the Scottish Borders, therefore some may be more accessible here in Berwickshire! An example of the points system for 4 of the sports is shown below. The passports will be handed back into schools for collection. Points will then be added up and children will be awarded medals based on their points total.

The children took part in regular activities Boccia and New Age Kurling and football. The football was delivered by SFA coaches Scott Nightingale and Ross Patterson. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed the activities and were supported by school staff as well as senior pupils Hannah Hay and Shonagh Duncan and Berwickshire High Schools's London 2012 Young Ambassadors Josh Herbet and Nicola Wealleans.
We look forward to seeing you at the next Paralympics on Wednesday 14th March 2012 and Borders Event in Galashiels later in the year.
