There are many ways to honour and celebrate the sporting achivements of coaches, volunteers, athletes and teams performing in the Borders.

 

Sport Council's Annual Awards

 

 

 

The Scottish Borders Local Sports Council's hold annual awards to regonise and reward the hard work and dedication of the many ahletes, coaches and administrators who are commited to developing sporting opportunites at a local level.

The 2009 awards are due to be held on the Saturday 21st Novemebr at the Cross Keys Hotel in Kelso.

Hall of Fame

 

The Scottish Borders Sports Hall of Fame was established in November 2005 to celebrate the sporting achievements of Borders Residents whose names are synonymous with sports both nationally and internationally.
The Hall of Fame provides an opportunity to reflect on the contribution of the many sports men and women and others from the Scottish Borders who have contributed to the legacy of sport and also to act as an inspiration for the next generation of sporting champions.

Nomination Form


 

In order to nominate someone to become a member of the hall of fame, firstly ensure that the nominated individual meets the selection criteria below. Then if appropriate being the nomination process by downloading a nomination form or pick up a form from any Scottish Borders Library, Museum, public building or from any leisure centre.

Selection Criteria
A person, who was born, lived or educated in the Scottish Borders.
A Person who has contributed to the success of an individual, team or animate object (i.e. animal) associated with the Scottish Borders.
A Person who under the Rules of their National Governing Body is or would have been eligible to compete for the Scottish Borders
An animate object other than a human being with exclusive connections with the Scottish Borders.
Must have reached National or International fame in their sport/field or made a contribution to the legacy of their sport/associated sporting area either nationally or internationally
A Team who the majority of its individuals satisfy the criteria detailed above.
Members can only be drawn from the list of approved Sport and Recreational Activities defined by sportscotland.
Members can be drawn from the areas of participation, coaching, officiating, sports broadcasting, reporter, photographer, medical practioner, administrator or competitor.

 

The nominations are presented to the Board members each year for consideration.

Once the board has decided a new member to induct into the Hall of Fame, the new member then joins the honour roll in November at the James McLean annual Celebration of Sport dinner.
