SWIM TEAM BORDERS AT THE EAST DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS

Swim Team Borders travelled to the Fife Institute of Sport on the 5th & 6th of December to contest the second round of the East District Age Group Championships for this season.
Category: General
Posted by: alawrie

Once again the team put in a fine performance, with members collecting numerous medals, claiming an East District record, contesting many finals and recording personal best times in almost every event.

Amy Fraser, 15 years of Gala ASC, again led the way for the team claiming two gold medals and one silver medal in impressive style. Fraser took two East District titles with typically dominant displays in the 14/15 years 200m and 400m Freestyle events. Not a noted breaststroker, Fraser also claimed silver in the 14/15 years 200m Breaststroke with a remarkable 11 second PB.
Ryan Brown of Kelso ASC is still only 11 years old, yet he was required to take on the 12 & 13 year olds at this competition. This didn’t stop the youngster from taking the scalps of many of his elders. Brown broke the 11 years 200m Breaststroke East District record. He was also the quickest “12 year old” in both the 12/13 years 100m and 200m Breaststroke. He recorded significant PB’s in all four of the events he contested over the weekend.
Kirsty Paterson, 16 years of Duns ASC, took bronze in the 16 years & over 200m Breaststroke with a significant PB. Paterson also recorded solid PB’s in the 200m and 400m Freestyle.
Fourteen year old Jessica Wilcox smashed her previous 200m Freestyle PB by 4.5 seconds to go under the 2 minute 10 sec barrier for the first time. The Teviotdale ASC swimmer’s performance saw her shrug off her pre-competition ranking of 8th to claim the bronze medal. She narrowly missed silver by five one hundredths of a second but was the quickest 14 year old in the East District with only two 15 year olds bettering her time.
Kelso ASC representative Lucy Hope, narrowly missed the podium with a 4th placing in the 12/13 years 400m freestyle. However she did record the quickest performance in the event by a 12 year old with a 5 second PB, and managed to come within just 21 one hundredths of a second of breaking the East District Age Group Record in the event. Hope also placed 5th in the 12/13 years 200m Freestyle final and recorded a solid PB in the 200m Breaststroke.
Teviotdale Swimming Club’s Scott Wilcox recorded a solid PB in the 16 years and over 200m Breaststroke. The 16 year old placed fourth in narrowly missing a podium finish.
Representing Peebles ASC, 12 year old Gregor Swinney was in impressive form placing fifth in the final of the 100m Breaststroke shortly after recording a massive 7 second PB in the heat. Swinney also recorded a huge 10 second PB in the 12/13 years 400m freestyle.
Thirteen year old Chloe Mitchell, Kelso ASC, recorded solid PB’s every time she hit the water. She improved on her previous best times in the 12/13 years 200m Freestyle, 400m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke.
Sixteen year old Euan Johnston, representing Duns ASC, made the final in the 16 years & over 100m Butterfly (5th) and 100m Backstroke (6th) and narrowly missed bettering his PB’s in the three other events he contested.
Kristie Waugh, 13 of Teviotdale ASC, recorded a PB in the 12/13 years 200m Freestyle and narrowly missed a PB in the 200m Breaststroke.
Coach of Swim Team Borders and Borders Performance Swimming Coach, Alex Jordan, said: “With almost every Swim Team Borders event resulting in a PB over the weekend it’s hard not to be very pleased with the team’s performances. The East District Record, East District titles and the numerous medals won are all fair reward for this team of committed swimmers.”
