Once again the team put in a fine performance, with members collecting a number of medals and recording many personal best times, despite their preparations being severely hindered by the adverse weather of late.
At this competition, swimmers under 13 years of age are restricted to one event only while those 13 & over are only permitted to contest two events.
Amy Fraser, of Earlston High, started strongly by claiming gold in the first event of the day, the Open 400m Freestyle. Fraser backed up later to win silver in the 15/16 years 200m Butterfly.
Gala Academy representative, Kirsty Paterson, collected a bronze in the 17-19 years 100m Butterfly. Paterson also took bronze in the 17-19 years 200m Individual Medley.
Lucy Hope, a member of Jedburgh Grammar, placed 4th in 12/13 years 200m backstroke and 5th with a PB in the 12/13 years 100m Backstroke. Hope was the quickest 12 year old competitor in both events.
Hawick High’s Scott Wilcox just missed out on the medals too, placing 4th in 17-19 years 100m Breaststroke and 6th in the 17-19 years 200m Breaststroke.
Ryan Brown, of Kelso High, was another team member who narrowly missed a medal in the 12&U 50m Butterfly, placing fourth. One consolation for Brown was that he recorded a massive personal best time in the event.
Hawick High representative, Jessica Wilcox finished 6th in the 15/16 years 200m Freestyle and 6th in the 15/16 years 100m Freestyle.
Chloe Mitchell, of Kelso High, placed 7th in the 13/14 years 100m Butterfly and 9th in the 13/14 years 200m IM. Both swims resulted in significant PBs.
Sixteen year old Euan Johnston, Selkirk High, placed 7th in the Open 400m Freestyle with a strong swim.
Kristie Waugh, of Hawick High, finished 10th in the 13/14 years 100m Breaststroke with a significant PB. Waugh also placed 14th in the 13/14 years 200m Breaststroke.
Kingsland Primary School’s Gregor Swinney recorded a solid PB with a near faultless swim in the13/14 years 100m Backstroke. He was the fourth quickest 13 year old in the event.
Scott and Jessica Wilcox, Amy Fraser, Kirsty Paterson and Lucy Hope all receive support through Scottish Borders Council’s Athlete Support Programme.
Coach of Swim Team Borders and Borders Performance Coach, Alex Jordan, said: “The team performed admirably considering the numerous disruptions to their training over the past few weeks. The future is looking even brighter, however, as they’ll soon get back to full fitness.”
