Today the Royal Automobile Club Motor Sports Association (RACMSA) launched its 2010 Rally of Scotland at the stunning Touch Estate near Stirling in association with Event Scotland, the Forestry Commission, the cities of Perth and Stirling and new partner for 2010, Gleneagles.
The RACMSA Rally of Scotland takes place on 15—17 October and is the penultimate round of this year’s high-profile Intercontinental Rally Challenge incorporating twelve events in Monte Carlo, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Czech Republic, Scotland and Cyprus.
The launch was attended by Scottish driver Dave Weston Jnr. Dave hails from Aberdeen, is one of Scottish national rallying top names, and is confirmed to contest four rounds of this year’s IRC, including the Rally of Scotland, Driving for Subaru Team Ramsport.
The RACMSA are building on the success of 2009’s inaugural event. A similar 210km of competitive miles through some of rallying’s most challenging stages awaits the competitors, thanks to the help and cooperation of the Forestry Commission. This will showcase Scotland’s beautiful landscape to a worldwide audience both for those attending the rally but also some stages are programmed to show live on British Eurosport.
Changes have been made since last year, to increase the popularity even more. The Rally takes place over a weekend - Friday to Sunday. All stages are open to spectators and the Friday night stage which takes place at Scone Palace has been lengthened. The event is a month earlier than last year to hopefully give better weather. It is also the penultimate rally of the season, so the championship should not have already been decided as it was last year, therefore more top teams will take part. Finally, yet importantly there are price reductions on most of last year’s comparable tickets and freedom of choice of venue along with free entry to accompanied under 15s. Tickets go on sale Friday 18 June
The main service area for the event is Perth Airport and Scone Palace will once again be the ceremonial start to the event, providing a stunning backdrop. In the dark of Friday night, the palace grounds will provide a great opening two stages taster for what’s in store over the weekend.
The rally will use forestry stages at Craigvinean, Dromond Hill, and Errochty with servicing stops at Perth. The Achray and 33.5km monster Loch Ard stage complete the route on Sunday with both stages being tackled twice with a short service stop between the runs at Callendar. The rally comes to a finish on Sunday at Stirling Castle.
Last year’s Rally Winners Skoda UK also announced today that they will again be the Official Vehicle Supplier to the event.
