Under the Data Protection Act, we have a legal duty to protect any information we collect from you. By supplying your details, you enable Sport Borders to be more specific in responding to your needs: or to put it simply - 'you are helping us to help you’. We take appropriate security measures to safeguard your data and apply security standards & controls to prevent any unauthorised access to it.
Sport Borders acts in accordance with current legislation and current Internet 'best practice' guidelines:
- We collect our information fairly, lawfully and for specific requested purposes only
- Information is only for use within Sport Borders - it will not be released to others without your consent unless we are obliged or permitted by law to disclose it
- If you send or post offensive (or in any other way inappropriate) material to Sport Borders, or otherwise engage in disruptive behaviour Sport Borders can use whatever information is available about you to stop the behaviour. This may involve contacting relevant third parties.
We may collect information that you give to us in member registration, consultations, surveys, competitions or questionnaires. Whenever we do this we will inform you of what your information will be used for and to whom it will be disclosed. We may share non-personal statistical, or summary information (limited to that held within the registration process) with organisations working in partnership with us, such as our funders or for sports development purposes. All personal information supplied is held securely - in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and you have a right to request a copy of all the personal information that Sport Borders holds about you, and to have inaccuracies corrected.
Please note that by completing the member registration on this site, the detail will be stored in a secure online database which is only accessible to the Sport Borders website administrators or programmers. Sport Borders may contact you from time to time with information or newsletters we feel relevant to you based on your membership information stored on our site including details of upcoming courses, appeals for information or other general communication. We will never sell or pass on your details to external agencies such as marketing agencies. We may however recommend that we share your information with organisations involved in sports development or in other matters which we believe to be beneficial to you but will not do so without your prior consent on every occasion
If you apply for funding from Sport Borders the details on the forms will be entered into a computer database used to administer the grants and track progress of all grant applications. We may share non-personal statistical, or summary information (limited to name and home town) from these databases with organisations working in partnership with us, such as our funders or for sports development purposes.
This privacy statement applies only to websites belonging to and operated by Sport Borders. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third party web sites that may be linked to our web pages.
Membership Cancellation
Upon your request, we can delete your membership from our website if you e-mail us and confirm your name, login e-mail address and password to dmartin@scotborders.gov.uk Please note also that if we send an e-mail out to our website members and the e-mail bounces back due to an invalid e-mail address, we will delete the user's account and details from our site.
