What is provided by the Outdoor Education Section?
The work of the OE section can be summarised as follows:

Support for a strategic framework for outdoor learning within Education and Lifelong Learning including excursions policy and advice and maintenance of an Adventurous Activities Licensing Services licence for all activities within scope of the AALS act. This support includes some in service training opportunities for teachers and leaders.
Maintenance of a range of outdoor resource bases including sailing bases at St Mary’s Loch and Whiteadder reservoir, Jedburgh artificial ski slope and climbing tower, canoeing and biking bases at Abbey Row, Kelso, electronically based maps and mapping resources and support an management of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.

Access to a small team of peripatetic instructional staff who have expertise across a range of outdoor learning areas. This instructional team is currently being developed and is available to school and community based groups across the Borders. Instructional staff are appointed to deliver either land based skills (e.g. hill walking, expeditioning, climbing), water based skills (e.g. canoeing, sailing) or mountain biking.
Some staff will work in two or more of these areas.
