Young Ambassadors
When London won the right to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games they made a promise to use the power of the Games to inspire millions of young people. The Young Ambassador programme is a result of that promise with young people across Britain acting as role models to inspire young people to take part in sport no matter what their ability may be. The Young Ambassadors will visit schools, sports festivals and extracurricular events within the local community to promote what the Olympics and Paralympics is all about - respect, friendship, excellence, determination, inspiration, equality and courage.
The role of the Young Ambassador is to promote sport, physical education and healthy living to build on the excitement of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Young Ambassadors have been and will continue to be recruited by the Scottish Borders Active Schools team as part of the Youth SportTrust programme, which aims to recruit more than 5,000 Young Ambassadors across the UK by the time the Olympic and Paralympic Games reach these shores in 2012.

Four S5 students from Kelso High School have been selected as ‘Young Ambassadors’ for the Scottish Borders. Kirsty Hill and Ben Leslie have been recruited as Gold Ambassadors and will lead the Ambassador team through the coming year, which also includes Anna Ramsay & James Stewart, both S5, who were selected as Silver Ambassadors.
You can find out what the young Ambassadors have been up to in the YA Page.
The Ambassadors will act as role models for the next year - championing sport and the values of the Olympic and Paralympic movement throughout the region. Among the ambassador’s tasks within the first year will be to deliver a sports festival and take on a volunteering role within the school cluster. They will also be expected to produce a case study to share the work achieved throughout the year. Four more young people will be recruited next year to take on the role with the current ambassadors acting as mentors.
The programme is being coordinated by Active Schools Coordinator Debra Martin. The Young Ambassador team will be coming up with ideas over the next few months and will then work with PE Staff and the Active Schools Coordinator to make them happen. Visit the Young Ambassadors pages for updates.
